Disclaimer : If you like the Chicago Blackhawks, this is not the place for you for AT LEAST 2 weeks. Thank you.

It's game day, it's game day, Canucks are gonna win on game day!

It's here. The first game of the 2011 Stanley Cup playoffs is upon us. Vancouver is at a feverish playoff high right now, me included.

No one can concentrate. Car flags are popping up everywhere. Small dogs have started sporting tiny Luongo jerseys. The call of LOUUUU can be heard into Calgary.

The husband has proclaimed he is getting crunk tonight. My cousin who is going to the game tonight is going to fight someone for a white playoff towel for us.

Be sure, WHEN we win, riots will ensue.

But, most of us have to work tomorrow and being hungover is not very business savvy.

You need to eat.

I think you should eat this.

It's a cheesy quickbread made with all your favourite pizza ingredients. It's thrown together quickly, fluffy like a regular quickbread but savoury like a pizza. Salty, cheesy, pizza-y. Okay that's not a word, but it kind of makes sense. No ? Okay, I tried.

You can start this before puck drop and be eating by the start of the second period.

Cheesy Pizza Quick Bread
[ adapted from Picky Palate ]

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
2 eggs
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
3/4 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese, plus more for sprinkling
1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup quartered pepperoni slices
1/2 cup marinara sauce, I used bottled pasta sauce
1/4 cup basil leaves, cut into strips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a loaf pan with non-stick spray. Set aside.

In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and pepper. Slowly add in eggs, buttermilk and olive oil and stir until just combined. Fold in Parmesan cheese, half of the mozzarella cheese and the pepperoni.

Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Top evenly with the marinara sauce and the basil strips, then add the remaining batter. Top with remaining cheese and additional basil leaves. Bake for 45 - 55 minutes or until tester comes out clean. Let rest for 30 minutes before removing from pan. Serve warm with a side salad and redemption for Vancouver.
